Most of the AI economy is asking how to get more output from fewer people. I am interested in a different question: what happens when we co-parent artificial intelligence with ancestral intelligence, human judgment, reciprocity, and the wisdom of living systems?
The Position
Extraction is not the same thing as intelligence.
We have spent generations designing systems around a familiar question: how much can we take out while putting as little back in as possible?
AI can supercharge that pattern. It can also expose it.
Regenerative AI is the choice to design intelligence so that the people, relationships, organizations, communities, and places around it become more capable because it exists.
The Design Test
What grows because this intelligence is here?
Capacity
Does AI return time, attention, creative range, and practical ability to people, or simply raise the amount they are expected to produce?
Continuity
Does knowledge survive transitions, meetings, turnover, and growth without locking human context inside a black box?
Reciprocity
Are the people, communities, sources, and systems creating the value treated as participants in the relationship rather than inputs to be consumed?
Ancestral Intelligence
Some of the intelligence we need next is older than our machines.
Ancestral intelligence is not nostalgia. It is the long human memory of living inside consequence.
Relationship. Reciprocity. Stewardship. Embodiment. Story. Place. Enoughness. Repair. Intergenerational responsibility. Knowing that a system can be technically efficient while becoming less alive.
Those forms of intelligence belong in the room while we decide what artificial intelligence is for.
From Position to Practice
Regenerative AI has to show up in architecture, not only language.
That means human review where judgment matters. Source-backed organizational memory. Clear roles for AI and humans. Local or sovereign options where appropriate. Transparent responsibility. Technology that helps teams remember and coordinate rather than turning every person into a prompt operator.
